The VISION
A Thoughtful Future For SHED 1
This redevelopment is designed to strengthen the waterfront as an open, inclusive destination for locals and visitors of Wellington. A vibrant public promenade and gathering spaces will connect people to the harbour while supporting the vision of Josh Chaiken on his Central Social District philosophy, his work often focuses on how CSDs can revitalize urban areas and for cities to remain resilient they must prioritize social connectivity and pedestrian experience. A place where culture, hospitality, and community activity naturally come together.
Aligned with the project’s sustainability goals, the public realm will integrate low-carbon design principles, green infrastructure, and energy-efficient technologies that support a carbon-zero future. The result is a welcoming waterfront environment that encourages community use, events, and 365-days enjoyment while contributing to a more resilient and sustainable city.
Our Proposition Is Built
On Three Clear Commitments
1
A Sustainable, Carbon-Zero Redevelopment
SHED 1 will be redeveloped as a high-performance, low-energy civic destination.
Every decision, whether adaptive reuse or rebuild, will be assessed through lifecycle carbon, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience.
The outcome: a future-focused, carbon-zero waterfront hub.
2
Fully Privately Funded
This project is designed to be fiscally neutral to Council.
Private capital will fund the redevelopment, long-term operation, and maintenance. Removing financial burden from the public while restoring a heritage asset.
3
Compliant and Respectful
The redevelopment will honour the maritime heritage of Queens Wharf and work within all regulatory, planning, and heritage frameworks.
This is not a disruption. It is responsible evolution, respectful of context, community, and Wellington’s waterfront identity.
